Open Call for Administering Survey Questions in the CORS Three-Year Panel
The Comparative Research Center Sweden (CORS) invites proposals for administering survey questions in its newly established three-year panel. Applications are welcome from all areas of social science, and CORS fully funds the costs of the data collection for successful applicants. Approved studies must demonstrate high scientific quality. Researchers and Ph.D. candidates affiliated with Swedish universities are encouraged to apply. The CORS Three-Year Panel is an open infrastructure in which a mixed-mode paper-and-pencil and online questionnaire will be administered to 7,000 individuals selected using simple random sampling of people registered as living in Sweden. The individuals will be invited by mail, digital mailboxes, and email to complete a questionnaire once a year for three years (2026-2028). Based on expected attrition, about 1,000-1,500 individuals are estimated to complete all three waves.
The questions that these individuals will answer will be selected through an open call to researchers in Sweden.
This call is funded by the Swedish Research Council, made possible by the CORS infrastructure, and the SOM Institute at the University of Gothenburg will administer the data collection. The applicants awarded space to ask questions within the CORS Three-Year Panel will develop the questionnaire jointly with researchers at the SOM Institute, and the awarded applicants will be given preliminary access to the collected data. The applicants will be given the opportunity to match survey responses to data in Swedish registers. The successful applicants will be selected by an independent review board with members from different social science disciplines and affiliations across Swedish universities, and representatives from the private sector.
To be considered for the CORS Three-Year Panel, the proposed study is required to have a research question that can be assessed by observing changes within and between individuals over time, and with a research method that can be administered through a paper-and-pencil and online questionnaire.
The applications will be assessed based on:
1. How well the usage of panel survey data from the CORS Three-Year Panel is motivated for answering the proposed research question(s).
2. How the proposed research study will contribute to the social science research area.
3. The feasibility of the study.
4. Whether the questions to administer can fit a paper-and-pencil questionnaire and do not exceed three A4 pages. Given high scientific quality, studies with fewer questions will be given preference.
The open call will close on February 16, 2026, at 23:59 CEST.
What should the application include?
• First and last name and affiliations of the main applicant.
• First and last names and affiliations of other collaborating applicants.
• Proof of affiliation with a Swedish university.
• A description of the proposed research study not exceeding one A4-sized page, single-spaced with 1-inch margins (excluding the questionnaire logic), including:
o A description of the research question.
o A motivation for how panel survey data from the CORS Three-Year Panel is essential for answering the research question(s).
o A description of the relevance of the study and a motivation for how it will contribute to the social science research area.
o If needed, a description of which registry data will be required for answering the research question(s).
o A brief time plan for the proposed research study.
• A complete questionnaire logic detailing all the questions sampled individuals need to answer for the project to be able to assess their research questions. The questionnaire will be uploaded as a separate document in the online application form.
